Mayfair Catering is delighted to be working with Angry Monk – a good-for-the planet supplier dedicated to a fairer food supply chain by sourcing ‘deliciously imperfect fruit and veg’.

By monitoring London markets and wholesalers and sourcing wonky veg, unsold produce or crops that are simply left out in a field to rot, Angry Monk helps to keep costs down while rescuing fresh food that would otherwise have been incinerated, used for compost or gone to landfill. Along with the produce, they also supply regular impact reports calculating the CO2e and water savings made by our own use of food surplus.
What’s with the curious name? Co-founder, Nathan Lucaussy met his angry monk while fasting in a Chinese monastery. To celebrate the end of the fast, the monastery invited him to an all-you-can-eat vegetarian buffet at a local restaurant. A hungry Nathan loaded his plate – three times – but couldn’t manage the final helping. Berating him for wasting good food, one angry monk forced him to eat every last bite. Thus, an idea was born.
Very much aligned to Mayfair Catering’s core values on sustainability and food-waste management, Angry Monk now brings wonky veg to our table.
