Mayfair Catering supports animal charity on a Grenadines island

Mayfair Catering is proud to support the all-volunteer team at Mayreau Animal Welfare (MAW) – a not-for-profit organisation which works to protect and rehabilitate stricken animals on the smallest island in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Mayreau is a long way from Mayfair, but one of MAW’s volunteers is a valued member of our sales team and we have been moved by her stories of animal neglect on the island. ‘We try to provide rescue, rehabilitation and veterinary services for sick, injured, homeless and abused animals on Mayreau.’ says Gill Fitzgerald, whose husband founded the charity. ‘But we are almost entirely self-funded, and it has become increasingly challenging for us continue our mission.’

Despite its idyllic Caribbean landscapes, this is one of the poorest communities in the Grenadines archipelago, and many of its domestic animals – particularly dogs – are poorly treated. MAW offers a range of animal care, including free veterinary treatment and medicines, food, shelter and rehabilitation. Their mission also prioritises education on conservation and environmental issues as well as promoting the health and wellbeing of animals by example.

‘Any donation, no matter however small, will help MAW to continue to provide suffering animals with the essential care and treatment they urgently need, thus also benefitting the local community,’ says Gill.
